Call for Clinical Research Group Proposals 2012

The Mental Health Research Network (MHRN) provides a national infrastructure for research in mental health. The Network currently involves eight research hubs which coordinate the recruitment of patients, participants or clinical teams for the research studies hosted by the Network. The Network is currently seeking proposals to set up a number of new Clinical Research Groups. The purpose of Clinical Research Groups (CRGs) is to provide the creative drive of the Network. Each CRG is expected to turn research ideas into funded studies that are suitable for running on the MHRN. For more information, please click here.

Good practice guidance for involving carers, family members and close friends of service users in research

This publication focuses on the valuable role of carers in mental health research. It provides practical and accessible guidance to researchers, commissioners of research, service users and carers. Drawing on a number of case studies, the guidance sets out how carers should be included in research, at what stages of the research process carers can be involved and identifies the core principles for the inclusion of carers.

An evaluation of service user involvement in studies adopted by the Mental Health Research Network

This evaluation, carried out by Kristina Staley, identifies what more the MHRN (and others) could do to promote successful service user involvement in adopted studies. Lead researchers from 45 studies selected at random from the MHRN portfolio were interviewed for the evaluation. Lessons relating to good practice were drawn out in a series of case studies following further in-depth interviews with researchers and service users. We will produce a summary document and format the case studies as separate documents shortly.
