Scope
The Clinical Pharmacy Research Group (CPRG) will conduct research into medicines use in mental health. Much of this work will be based on quantitative surveys or audits of prescribing practice but will extend to prospective effectives studies and small, multi-centre randomised, controlled studies.
Importance of topic
Medicines management and evidence-based prescribing are key priorities for the NHS in general of for mental health in particular. Effectiveness studies are now considered an essential part of the post-marketing assessment of psychotropic drugs. Pharmacy-based research is highly valued for its rigour and practical applicability and becoming more widely accepted by psychiatric journals.
