For researchers

The Mental Health Research Network supports trials and studies about mental health
that need to recruit through NHS services. We work with around 60 mental health trusts
in England that run community-based and specialist services in cities and rural areas, and can help you find collaborators and investigators who work in these services. We employ dedicated teams of clinical studies officers who work exclusively on MHRN-supported studies, helping to recruit participants and ease the administrative burden, making it easy for you to get on with the research.

Visit the Support we can offer page to find out about the many practical ways we can help you.

Studies we support must be included in the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network Porfolio Database. This is a searchable database of research, which lists studies and trials being carried out within NHS organisations. Being on the Portfolio Database means your project is eligible for ‘infrastructure support’ from the MHRN and ‘service support costs’ to help it run within the NHS. This financial support is provided via Local Comprehensive Research Networks. Both the Local Comprehensive Research Networks and the Mental Health Research Network are part of the National Institute for Health Research. Visit the Who we are and how we work page to find out how all the research networks fit together.

Most high-quality, peer-reviewed studies that are funded by the NIHR, other government departments or non-commercial partner organisations with similar competitive commissioning criteria are automatically eligible to be included in the Portfolio Database.

However, if your study is not automatically eligible, we can help you apply for inclusion.
If you are unsure about the eligibility of your project, contact your local MHRN hub, or the MHRN coordinating centre. You can find out about the eligibility criteria for inclusion in the Portfolio Database by visiting the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network Coordinating Centre website.
